* Update *
The Irish Powerlifting Nationals took place on the 23rd of July this year. Our very own
JJ Dunne did very well and attained a Total Lift of 722½ kilos. The competition was held in Ger McNamara's gym in Limerick. Although JJ made the decision to drop weight (8 Kg) to make the 82½ kilo category he still achievied a very impressive:
| Squat | 282½ Kg |
|---|---|
| Bench | 165 Kg |
| Deadlift | 275 Kg |
| Total | 722½ |
Here are the videos of his heaviest lifts in each of the three events. Including an extremely inspiring deadlift - one you just have to watch..
Deadlift - 275Kg
Squat - 282.5Kg
Bench - 165Kg
Members of the gym are constantly competing in National, European and World Championships. In March 2011 we succesfully held the IPO National Powerlifting Championships in Universal Warrior.
Powerlifting consists of three events Squat, Bench press and Deadlift. They can compete raw or equipped (that is, with or without certain supportive equipment).
Each competitor is allowed three to four attempts on each lift depending on their standing and the organization they are lifting in (usually smallest w-class to heaviest). The lifter's best valid attempt on each lift counts toward his competition total. If two or more lifters achieve the same total, the lighter lifter ranks above the heavier lifter. Competitors are judged against other lifters of the same gender, weight class, and age.
Weight Classes (in kilos):
| Male: | 52 - 56 - 60 - 67.5 - 75 - 82.5 - 90 - 100 - 110 - 125 - 125+ |
|---|---|
| Female | 44 - 48 - 52 - 56 - 60 - 67.5 - 75 - 82.5 - 90 - 90+ |
